Oil & Smoke
I have a 3165 with just over 700 Hourso n it.
It usually takes about 90 minutes to mow the lawn. Second time using it this year it started smoking like crazy– Blowing out of the exhaust – going up hills. Upon further investigation, oil was being sucked or pushed down the carburetor through the little rubber tube inside the air filter housing. I check the oil again and it is not over full. Also, after checking The air filter had not been changed since last season. Had 27 hours on it and was filthy. Put in a new one and I am still having the same problem. Anybody have any ideas? Sure like this little guy and would like to keep it for many more years. Thanks Jeff |

See if there is a breather/check valve that has messed up and pumping oil up the tube to air filter. Maybe something has gotten stopped up and is holding oil in the valve chamber? I would start by following the tube back to the valve cover/breather. I should have asked first, this is blue (oil) smoke, right? A look in the parts book may help also.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
