XT1 Problems
Well gents... this first thread was certainly a long time coming lol. I hop on here once in a while to check things out, but this time I figured I would share.
Backround So, I'm currently on my 3rd Cub and first newer model. Last year i ran a JD most of the season (don't shoot, it was free!)... but after a lot of frustration (and constantly replacing parts) i decided that regardless of what I paid for another Cub, I'd still get better value per dollar than a free JD . Anyways, Jimbob200521 is a friend of mine , and happened to find someone within the area selling a XT1 LT46" with only 7 hours on it... so i made it mine. Uh Oh! Anyways, the rest of mow season was great, and i was very glad i made the purchase. Then... spring happened. I went out one morning and took the tarp off and pulled the Cub out to clean it up and service it for the season. After starting it, i noticed the smell of burning oil... and sure enough there was a spot on the floor. uh oh!!! I popped the hood off and there was oil seeping out of the valve cover gaskets. So, I shut her down and called Cub Cadet (holy crap i have a warranty!) . Customer Service So while talking to Cub Cadet (Pretty depressing when they answer the phone as MTD), they tried telling me that i had probably exceeded the oil capacity and that it was probably my own fault . Then tried talking me through how to fix it. It wasn't until after i told them that the mower only had 13 hours on it (and that this was going to be its first oil change) that things finally got rolling with scheduling a service call. While talking to the tech, i was told that there was also a service bulletin on my model for the oil drain tube, so they would be taking care of that as well. They said that since its the oil system that's effected anyways, the oil change would be complimentary as part of the service bulletin. They also expressed their concern for the oil leak and wanted to get me scheduled right away with my local dealer. Here We Go... So after talking to Cub Cadet, i immediately called my local dealer to schedule a service call. I get ahold of service and explain the call that i just had with cub cadet and tell them that i have a refererence number to give them. His response was "what about it". So after telling him that i needed to schedule said service, (and then 5 minutes of repeating myself) we had agreed that they would come pick up the mower the following morning. Service So they had the mower for 8 days... never once did i hear from them. Now mind you, this is 2 weeks ago, when everybody and their brother was getting they're mowers ready for the year, so a delay was to be expected... but a simple call to let me know whether I'd have my machine back this week or next would have been nice. I received the mower back on day 9, after having to call them 30 minutes after they had told me they would show, and only after getting the service rep to say "fine, ill load it up and bring it down". Okay then... So right to it... after mowing the yard that Saturday, I removed the hood to check out their work. I noticed that not only did they not change my oil filter (or attempt to wipe up any of the oil that was still everywhere), i discovered that the oil issue had reached as far as the inside of the air filter. The fix they used was simply removing the valve cover gaskets, greasing them, and reassembling. So at the moment they are not leaking, but they never gave a reason as to why, or did anything about the fact that the oil was as far up as the air cleaner. Also there is now a clear tube in the cup holder of the mower and no reason was given. So I suppose that I'm left to assume that this is now how i have to drain my oil. 20170422_093740.jpg 20170422_093659.jpg Soooo... I guess this weekend i will be contacting Cub Cadet... Again... and see what to do. Have any of you had any of these kinds of experiences?

You should have bought a real Cub Cadet
Seriously though, I hate that you have had this experience with a CC, whether old or new. I also hate that you have had this kind of experience with a dealer while under warranty. I know which dealer you had service it and I also know a member here who works at that dealer as well as another that used to. I'm sure if he had had his hands on that machine, you would have been much happier with the outcome. Either way, I hope this doesn't soil your opinion of CC's. Mistakes happen, I had a somewhat older CC that had a known issue with the block cracking. I had this issue with the one I had (came with the house I bought, 'member?). Anywho, I TRIED to blow that SOB up. Ran it WOT while slinging oil everywhere for almost an hour and it never blew. Irrelevant to your issue, I know, but still. I guess my point is things happen and if they are taken care of like they should be, you have a happy customer. If they are not taken care of like they should be, i.e. poor dealer service, a customer will often walk away from a brand for the wrong reason. I hope your CC is around long enough to give you a good, long life and it doesn't sour you to the brand. After all, you know what resides in my garage right now and I'm happy as a pig in donaldtrump to have the machines I do, even though one stopped starting when I moved it tonight. See, it's always something whether new or old!!

Maybe I should have bought a real cub haha... just liked the idea of finally having one that's still under warranty, and for me it's just used to mow so a GT would be a waste. Honestly though, this thing is great to mow with... well... when it isn't leaking oil on my floor or burping it up through the carb ( Kohler). And I was all excited too because it's my first v-twin lol
Moral of the story: the only thing i like less than paying for the parts to fix my mower, is someone else doing the work
