the 2000 series is a GT... now you will get a lot of slack from people saying that it isn't a GT on the lines of the IH Cub, but it is a categorized from MTD as a GT, it does has the shaft driven transmission, right? I think the 2000 series still had the aluminum rear end, MTD switched back to a cast iron rear with the 2500's, but definitely not the IH rear.

Yes its shaft drive started to realize id be frowned upon after looking around a little and realizing a little more on the history of cub cadet. I honestly don't care because compared to the old murray and yamaha walk behind blower, once I find a cab I will be very satisfied.

The 2000 series are still lawn tractors...the trans is shaft driven, but it is not capable of heavy ground-engaging work. The early ones were made at the same time as the 'cyclops' GTs. They are pretty lightly built compared to a Cyclops or 3000 series but still much better than the 1315, 1620, 1110, etc. that preceded them. The 2500 series are classified as GTs if I remember right, as they are capable of heavy ground-engaging work.

Woodswagon: The test is ground engagement!! While the 2000 series Cub Cadets do have a shaft drive they are NOT Garden Tractors!!. Like Matt G said, they are NOT capable of ground engaging activity. The Garden Tractors made simultaneously with the 2000 series were the 3000 Series Cub Cadet Garden Tractors . Later, when MTD switched back to the Cast Iron transaxles in the 3000 series, they also reintroduced a smaller Garden Tractor, the 2500 series Cuib Cadets.

why does cub offer the 002 30" tiller, and 304 28" tiller for the 2206?

They aren't much bigger than a walk-behind, and that little tiller probably isn't that hard on the tractor; all it has to do is keep the tiller from pushing it forward. You can't pull a plow, cultivator, disc, etc. behind them.

So with all this said I shouldn't have any worries then because all I'm going to do is mow & blow with it. Can anyone tell me what the numbers 2206 stand for?

2 = 2000 series
20 = 20 hp 6 = hydro (I think. In the first generation of the 2000 series, 0 was gear drive and 5 was hydro) |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
