Kohler M16 in wide frame
I have a Kohler 16 Magnum engine I'm trying to mount in a 1200. I'm missing the bearing plate and all ignition parts. The small bearing plate does not have a mounting bracket for ignition. The large plate has a starter mount but will not fit the wide frame from what information I have. Could someone point me in the right direction for what I need. I do have the M16 flywheel with no fins on it.
thanks for any advice. |

I told you in your other thread that you need to find a K series for that puller. You can't adjust the timing on that Mag motor. You'll be very disappointed after all that work, only to find out you can't get much power out of the M because of it's fixed timing. Go find a K series.
The larger bearing mount WILL fit into a QL frame. No different than the K341's in the 1650's. Don't know who told you the M won't fit, but they're wrong. |

ok thanks for the info. do I understand that the m motor cannot be turned in to a k with mods? I thought that a new ignition system with a steel flywheel would be needed. one website shows theres very little difference between the two.i guess im learning the hard way. I do have the k motor that came in it I could build. anyways thank for the help.

Mag engine blocks don't have mounting or provision for points.

would the crank trigger ignitions allow for adjustable timing?

When I was younger and race Jr dragster they sold off-set keys for the flywheel so you could adjust the timing.

The ones that mount to the front, yes.
Yeah.... but when you make a change to the engine or want to try different settings, you have to pull the motor, tins and flywheel to change it. Points are soooo easy. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
