Default Hello from south east WI

hi all
thanks for letting me partake in the Cub Cadet festivities.
i just recently purchased a piece of property large enough to have an excuse to buy a lawn tractor. so after about a month of research i created a short list that included a JD 314, 318, case 446 and a CC 782. Well there are a ton of JD's out there and im not one to try and fit in. the case was really cool but it was a little concerned about functionality. (case is still on the list but is going to take some serious sweet talking to justify having 2 tractors) so i decided on the 782 which i was kind of leaning toward anyway cause it was red and i like red and red is the wife's favorite color so it was easy to convince her. well after bring it home i was really happy that i chose the Cub. this thing is really neat! i shined it up best i could and polished out those sweet chrome hub caps and just stared at it for about an hour then mowed the lawn with it. i tell ya i was making up all kinds of excuses to go out in the garage and look at it. wasn't long before the wife was giving me crap about it. :-)
any way thanks for letting me in. looking forward to learning a few things about my tractor and cant wait to start restoring it.

from another Cheese Head.
Clean looking 782. Is it a IH or CCC?
Usually we suggest changing all fluids and filters on a new to you tractor. Because it's hard to say when the PO (previous owner) did the last bit of maintenance.
You'll really enjoy it, they are a great tractor. By the way, this is considered a GT, (garden tractor), not a "lawn tractor"...
Congrats on the 782.

Another howdy from another Wisconsinite.

Read a lot and you'll learn a lot. Don't be afraid to ask questions. There aren't any dumb questions, only questions that aren't asked in the first place. Go to the Tech sections and download all the manuals that you can find on your GT and then start reading.

Everyone here has a lot of knowledge and will be more than willing to help you. Try to take pictures of problem areas so that others can see exactly what you are talking about and what your problem might be. The serial number is also very helpful.

i looked up the serial # and it was built in 85 so its a CCC. its also got the series 2 engine as well. there's a sticker on the engine saying that its a replacement so im assuming that it doesn't have the 1500 hours that the timer says it has.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
