1864 vs 2284 size
Can anyone tell me if the 1864 is physically the same size as a 2284. Mainly the same frame and hydro and axles. There is an 1864 for sale that is cheap enough I may buy for parts. Thank you, steve.

No, the 2284 is larger.
Frame is longer, rear end and hydro are different from an 1864. Hydro drive and rear end is the same physical size, but different drive ratio. You need to find a GT (Garden Tractor) rear end/frame. The 2284 is a Super Garden Tractor (SGT). |

Thank you J-Mech, I thought they were probably different. I already have too many anyway, till the next deal comes up. I was actually thinking about the 1864 for parts for the 2284. I don't need anything but the 1864 was cheap enough to consider.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
