Default Piston protrusion K161

Well I finally started to rebuild the 70. Went on eBay and bought a overhaul kit for the k161. Tore it down cleaned and honed it. Put it back together (mostly) because I believe I have a k181 rod instead of a k161. So the piston is sticking out of the block at TDC. Just looking for confirmation. Your collective wealth of knowledge is needed.

I've never seen a piston stick out of the block on any Kohler I've ever worked on. I would suspect something is wrong. Most Kohler heads are flat where the piston is so if the piston sticks out of the block it will probably hit the head. How much is it sticking out?

You have the wrong connecting rod. 8hp rods are shorter. About 1/8 approximately.

It's about 1/8 of an inch so I probably need the 8hp rod. The engine was rebuilt before.

No need to take it apart, just hit the top of it with the chain saw, then polish it up with the snag grinder.
Being soft aluminum, it will cut pretty easy

I was going to suggest a block of wood and some sandpaper but your way works too.
