129 Hydro adjustment?
New to the forum here, with my 129 Hydrostatic machine.
I'm having a problem with the tractor increasing speed, doesn't matter if I am in forward or reverse. Say I am cutting grass at a steady speed, if I take my hand off the forward/reverse lever, the lever starts moving on its own and the tractor increases speed. Is it normal, to have to hold the hydrostatic lever in one place for it to maintain speed? I've had this 129 for probably 20 years, and it has always done this, I just swapped out to a ported hydro and added the hydraulic lift and was just wondering if this is normal or some linkage somewhere I can adjust? Thanks |

There is a "friction" nut at the end of the Hydro Lever Handle. Needs to be adjusted. Got to the Tech Library Section and download the Service Manual that shows and explains on how to do it.

There are two styles for the hydro linkage on the wide frames. Later styles above serial number 503725 use the friction nut. Here is the link for this repair

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
