1979 cub low boy 184. 60” mowing deck, 3 point. Runs good mows good , strong 3 pt ,hydraulics good , belts good . Everything works as it should .( the catch ) The steering just got super tough . I think the steering got tweaked when I got stuck while mowing.

I've been trying to sell a 185 for over a year now. Mine has a deck and 3pt. Good shape. I can't get any better offer than $1500. I think it's worth more, so I still have it. I'm about ready to take the next $1500 offer though. I never use it. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Not big enough for what I wanted it for.

Thanks for your input Jonathan, I know the 184 is a more desirable tractor than the 185. With the steering issue , I would be interested in selling my tractor at $1500.

Is this true? Would think the opposite due to one more horsepower, not much difference......

I think you are thinking backwards Mike. Lo-boy number system is backwards. The yellow 185 came before the red 184. 184's seem more desirable due only to color. Same tractor otherwise. (Different grille too.)

184 has separate starter/ alt ,18hp vs 14 hp , and newer than a 185. However, I don’t own a 185 so I’m basing my “more desired “ statement on what I’ve read. I’m not trying to offend any 185 enthusiasts.

I see prices on these thing all over the place on Craigslist. I'd look there to see what my local price range would be. I'm sure it will be affected my how many big Deere lawnmowers and SCUT machines and how many ZTR mowers are in you neck of the woods--We have tons of those here--as well as no IH dealer within 1 1/4 hr driving time--translates to the loboys not being worth a lot

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
