That's a really good idea. Lipstick is oil based, so it won't hurt anything. Never thought, or heard tell of that!

Well, I flipped the spur gear around so that the wear is on the other side now but check out the wear on all the other gears. Do you think this is an oil related issue or faulty gears? As far as I know, this had the original Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid with about 350 hours on it....ya, it was past due for an oil change. It's hard to see in the pics but look at that last pic and that is what the others are looking like.

No, I don't think it was an oil issue. It was what was in the oil that was the issue. There was a lot of metal floating in there. Also looks like there may have been some water too. That will wear on all that stuff. Now.... think about what the precision parts in the hydro pump might look like. The gears don't worry me a bit. It's not a farm tractor, and you likely won't be plowing acres and acres with it, so I would have ran them too. But the hydro..... I'd be concerned about it. It may not work well when it gets hot. It may not last long even if it does work. You will know in short order. If it has lift issues, or loses pressure when hot, I wouldn't even bother with trying to figure out why. Just look for another hydro. Wish you the best of luck Todd! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
