At that price I would want to hear it run... The series I engines weren't all bad... yes they would starve the rods for oil.. but I wouldn't kick it to the curb just for that. I still have a series I in my first 782.. known it since new... thousands of hours.. a little tired but still running good.. but it was meticulously maintained by the original owner and probably never run over 3/4 throttle... magnum conversion is easy.. command or vangard not that bad.. But you could find a nicer one for not much more money

Not trying to be a dick but look at the pic. That one's rough. I think you'd be better off putting your $350 toward a machine in better shape. Really as pointed out the seat looks to be the best part. That one would be better served as an organ donor for a nicer machine. If you get a running engine in the process, all the better, but that one doesn't look to be worth the effort to save.
That said if it was near me I'd kick the tires on it to see what parts it has that could be salvaged....think things like the seat mentioned before, if it has an early style carb, straight solid grill, fender pan, steering wheel emblem, straight hood, steering gear/linkage, etc. I bought a rough (running S2 KT) 1710 for $120. I salvaged the rear wheels, the engine (the reason I bought it), the muffler, battery, and the taillights, and sold the rest as scrap, and it looked better than that one. Running, fair 782s go from 500-1000 so for a little more I think you'd be ahead. I gave 850 on each of mine (which looking back was high) 1) was red, IH, S2 engine, 42" plow, and 50C deck; and 2) was y/w, S1 engine, CCC machine w/IH diff and hourmeter, 44C deck, but had dual hydraulics for a front blade, and I wanted it to match my red one. I'm just passing on my experience to help you make a good decision. I didn't mean to come off as rude or abrasive. 782s are by far my favorite machines.

The tractor in question im told is complete less the side panels and should run with a battery im told.if thats the case, i wont take it apart. At the same time i wont pay 350 either
