1811 throttle cable replacement
I purchased a laser tachometer to set my RPM and when I finished the job, the throttle cable broke. It broke near the tight radius before the bracket on the engine (see pic). I bought a replacement cable for 6 bucks from the depot and removed the old throttle lever. It's not easy but the plastic handle does fit down through the dash opening. Good time to clean and oil the lever. I tried to slip the new steel wire into the old sleeve but it was too kinked. I removed the old sleeve and replaced it with a piece of the new one which is actually better quality because it has a Teflon lining while the old system is just metal on metal. Hint, cut the sleeve with a cutting wheel because it's too hard for pliers and you don't want to kink it. The sleeve gets pinched in a yoke on the lever bracket (see pic). Just open the yoke a bit, twist out the old sleeve, twist in the new, and squeeze the yoke in a vise to tighten it again.
I'm not too happy about that tight bend. I will try to route it outside the oil lines to keep it from breaking in 30 years. I also want the lever to move more easily.
