Default 882 Driveshaft Flex Coupling Disc

Hey all, working on a CC 882 Diesel and replacing the driveshaft, coupling arm, bushngs, etc.

The question I have, on the parts diagram it shows just 1 rubber flex coupling disc for front, and 1 for rear. Mine had 2 front, 2 rear.

Not sure of the history of the tractor or if maybe someone was in there working and threw an extra disc on.

My question is, should I order 4 new discs or just 2? This tractor will just be for putting around the yard every once and a while, no towing, mowing, etc. Just a for fun riding around.

Check the hole locations of the old versus the new driveshaft. The spirol pin locations will determine whether you should have two or four flex disks

I'm pretty sure all my 882's (and other diesels) have 4.

Here is an issue I ran into when I rebuilt one of my 882's.

I made my own drive shaft the same size as the original one and already had new flex disc joints on order.

I get all the parts in hand and try to reassemble and found the drive shaft was too long. Here is what I found.

Original flex disc joint.

New ones from Cub Cadet.

I ended up making another drive shaft.

Watch out for the cap screw heads hitting each other on the motor end of the shaft also.

The best system is to switch it over to the CV type but I'm too cheap to do that so I stick with the original style setup.

Lets see some pics.

Hopefully the driveshaft I order is not too long and or the flex disc joints are same size. I am going to order 4 since that is what came off.

I will have to get some pics up tomorrow!

At the top of the page we have a fellow "parts by Jeff" that makes parts like driveshafts and lots of other things, great workmanship.

The Cub Cadet Parts Manual (Paper and Electronic) both indicate four(4) Flex Disc Couplers.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
