Valve Keepers
While doing a valve job on my K321, I used a bit of a redneck method to remove the valves and valve keepers, and my wrench slipped on the intake side and the valve slammed back down, shearing the step off of the intake valve keepers.
So I need to replace them. I know they are Kohler part number 41 755 10. What I'm wondering is, am I limited to ordering these online, or does anyone know of a cross reference for them in a different style at a local parts store like Napa or Carquest? I see my local Carquest may have them, but the descriptions are very generic and don't list many dimensions. |

You could check some local small engine dealers, power equipment companies, and of course a cub dealer. I get lucky sometimes with my local guy.

So not much luck with any of the small engine shops around me today. None had any keepers on hand, but I did get some ordered from one shop. 2 Sets (4 total) of keepers is going to cost about 25 bucks shipped, spendy when you consider what you're getting.
So the lesson learned here is use a valve spring compressor when pulling valves. |

I had a valve spring compressor on order from a parts store that was going to show up the next day, but that night I wanted to get started lapping the valves, so I used a wrench to remove the keepers. It worked on the Exhaust side but not so well on the Intake side. So now I have to wait longer for the new keepers than if I just waited for the valve spring compressor in the first place. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
