The series 2 have cross drilled crankshafts to oil the lower end of the rod, at the very least it would need changed and either the oilpump or relief spring to up the pressure a bit.

A series 1 equipped cub will accept a series II or better yet,a Magnum
they are both bolt in's.
The magnum does require an additional simple relay to kill the engine.
Enjoy the series I till it dies a natural death then either switch as mentioned,
or as others have done a later OHV valve engine.
Both my 782 have magnums, love the sound & torque of the opposed twins.

To be fair....Dad's 782 has a series 1 in it and he's had it for probably 15-20 years. He lives on hilly ground and we've mowed all over the place with it for those years, and (shameful to admit) I don't think the oil has been changed in it (if so, not often) and it's never given him problems. The only issue it currently has is that the front seal leaks and is depositing oil onto the mower deck belt so it slips some.

This sounds good to me, I was just curious if there was a easy addition that i could add to resolved it.. but I'll either run it till it dies, or trade it up

Biggest thing to longevity of a series I is keep the oil changed and do not rev it up till the oil is warmed!!
it is a splash system, cold oil does not splash, it is like honey on a cold day.

For more information identifying if it's a Series I or Series II, we covered that pretty well over on my IH 782 thread from over the summer: https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ad.php?t=55315

My engine has all the Series I tin but the engine is definitely a Series II. So you can't always go by whats stamped on the tin.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
