First, welcome to OCC.........
 The Cub Cadet 100 rolled out of the Factory with a Kohler K241S-46179. There could have been some sort of replacement(s) along the 100's life, since 1963.

I have read up a little but I’m not sure if this is the original Will be tearing into engine this week Have a long way to go, missing some parts I plan on taking pics along the way with many questions I’m sure

I could make nothing from the image you posted. Typical Kohler's Engine tag is a aluminum foil type of tag.

Welcome
The top number "09978" could be an indication that it was built September 9th 1978. This would be after the 100 series finished. I could not ID the rest of the number. The second line.. Is it 15310C or 153100?
