We have no idea "what's the deal"
Did you check to see if the needle valve in the carb is not seating because of crud keeping it off the seat? That would be the first place one would look. Did you also check to see if the float has a hole in it causing it to sink? You need to do some detective work as our Crystal ball service center we consult in cases like this, are all shut down due to the shelter in place order we are under.  But as soon as the pandemic subsides, we can start guessing again.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
