Kolher Command 18 in an 1872 wiring?
These small engines baffle me. I have no clue how to wire it. Please help.

When you say "wire it".. Did you replace the engine and dont know what wires go where? Or are you making your own harness?

If you can find the engine decal on the engine topside, post the numbers here and some helpful member will identify possible doner tractor. With that info you can get the electrical diagram and compare it to the 1872 electrical diagram.
What cubby102 said sounds like great advice. If you find a way to check/clean/replace the air cleaner on the command short of moving the engine to gas tank separating shroud rearward after lifting the gas tank up out of the way - please let me know how. I bought a motor plate a while back that the Command engine bolts to, & the plate bolts into the 1872 frame, I cannot recall what it came out of.
For the driveshaft, I have one of "Jeff in PA's" rear adapters, & I have a driveshaft assembly that uses the little blue barrels that I will get Jeff to shorten & weld for me. Unless I can find one with CV joints. Was told one from a 2084 or 2284 is a direct fit. I still have the firewall & fuel tank out, sounds like I may have some fitment issues with it. Thanks

Maybe 2 or 3 years ago I bought a 1872 already converted to the CH 18S. It has become my snow handling machine - I have a 54" hyd. angle plow and a 54" snowblower for it. The problem with the air cleaner service keeps me from using it for mowing as I can only get an hour run time in the dry Summer months between service on the air cleaner. That is the foam precleaner and or cartage cleaning or replacement. When the neighbors Cottonwood trees are re-seeding in full swing it's more like 15 to 20 minutes between air cleaner service. I don't care much for Cottonwood trees!
I hope you find a good work-around for air cleaner maintenance and will share it with us. |

Yes that is the tag I was referring to. Traffic on the forum has been light but I expect someone will be along to say what tractors used that particular engine.
Another consideration in the swap is the size of the electric pto pulley. My Command engine has a 6" pulley and the M18 pulley is 4.5" IIRC. There may also be a difference in crankshaft diameter between the two engines that would prevent swapping the pto from the M18 to the CH18. |
