Did not realize Messick's still had the kits. Cub says NLA. I will have enough parts/o-rings/wiper seals to rebuild 6 cylinders for closer to $35. This cylinder I am working on is not perfect. But it has friends in the shed in better condition. And now I gots the parts figured out by stripping this rusted up cylinder. It's usable but the 2 or 3 pits in the rod concern me because I think one or two pits in the chrome will phass by the 3/4 o-ring below the wiper seal. I totally agree Jon, won't take long... However, after messing around for a couple of hours, the info is now documented. I did find a detailed rebuild thread on MTF from a couple years back but there were NO part numbers unfortunately. The gland nut wrench I borrowed from my Dad was a CTA 8600. In the neighborhood of $30. The cylinder IS still available NEW from manufacturer. http://www.customcylindersintinc.com...ift-cylinder-0 Certainly if a person did not have access to speacialty tools then buying a new cylinder is much more palatable at that price point.

I give you a lot of credit for rebuild it. Even if it doesn't last at least you know how it comes apart.

Good job on that. (even if it doesn't last). My 2284 power steering cylinder rebuild is still holding strong. I have not leaked a drop of fluid. I've been using my tractor all winter blowing snow and taking my two year old son for rides around the yard. Where there's a will there's a way... Oh, and I have an extra lift cylinder in my garage in perfect condition... just sayin.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
