Default Cub Cadet 1000 Transmission Input Shaft Yoke

On my 1000, it appears that the transmission input shaft yoke is worn out. It can wobble back and forth on the shaft. I removed the driveshaft and this yoke, and the bushing in the center seems to swivel freely. The ball bearing was present in the yoke.

I have a model 1200 parts tractor. I removed the yoke from it. The bushing in the center seems to be rusted in place, and does not swivel at all. Otherwise, it fits the transmission shaft tightly, and other than the bushing seems to be reusable.

Is it possible to replace this bushing, and what would the P/N be? Is this bushing supposed to swivel? What is it's purpose? Is it supposed to help compensate for any angular misalignment of the drive shat where it inserts into this bushing?

Should I just replace this whole assembly with a new one?

Try some penetrant.
It should free up without too much trouble I would think.
Worth a try
Part number is 941-3004 if you want to replace it.

I have the ball bushings and if the coupler is shot, I make them too. The couplers I make for the smooth shaft rears have set screws in case the shaft is worn .

Put the coupler in a vise and spray it with KROIL or another penetrant. Stick the end of the driveshaft in it to see if that frees it up.

If it doesn't, it can be replaced and I have affordable brand new ball bushings

Jeff, That's exactly what I did. Sprayed it with PB Blaster, clamped it in a vise, stuck the end of the drive shaft in and worked it around, and it freed right up.

This bushing fits on the end of the transmission input shaft with no play, but the spirol pin hole in the shaft is kind of wallowed out. The shaft on my 1200 parts tractor looks OK, so I may try re-using it.

I got tired of the iso mounts on this tractor, so several years ago I bought a set of your solid mounts to mount the engine (which is the 12hp unit, recently rebuilt at the time, from the parts tractor). I also installed one of those "heavy duty" clutch driver assemblies which replaced that flexible clutch driver that was stock on the Quiet Line tractors. I wonder if that solid clutch driver might be the source of my problems. The transmission end of the driveshaft developed a severe wobble.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
