It's Me Again With A New LTX1042 Issue
This time it's the left rear axle seal leaking. So far the tractor is still running OK (other than marking it's territory on my clean garage floor) but it seems that it goes awfully slow in reverse. But there is a dribble of tranny fluid running down the inside of the wheel and down the tire.
I recall seeing a video on the 'net wherein a guy picked up a Husqvarna for free (sure looked awfully similar to a Cub Cadet except for red paint) and it wouldn't move at all once he got the motor running. I recall that the Hydro Tranny was a sealed unit, but he found what he thought was the factory fill plug, which he pried off, and dumped in some plain old motor oil (which he figured out somehow that that was what they used), picked out the leaky seal and replaced it with one from his junk box. Got it working. Anybody have any ideas on this situation? May be a winter project. |

Look up the seal
Order it Once you have it Change it, it takes like 5 minutes if the wheel comes off ok, maybe 20 minutes if the wheel is stubborn. There is a plug on the top that you can pry out and top off with 30wt motor oil. This can be done while in the tractor, is a bit of a pain but not to bad. Plenty of other things to do this winter

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
