I'll agree with that, but the rest are vents.

I put the new cover and gasket on, put oil in the engine, and spun it over without starting. Doesn't appear to be leaking from the gasket area anymore.
I'm going to reinstall the engine tomorrow and fire it up for a final shakedown. Fingers crossed! |

I’m getting ready to install a CH18 that had a “leak” from the left head gasket that let compression into the cavity between the cylinders where the lifters are. Engine sounded great and was running quite smoothly but was blowing oil past full plug, when I unscrewed the full plug the compression in the valve cover blew it to the garage ceiling. Head bolts were loose on that head.

For those following along, the new oem gasket and cover stopped the leak. The 1863 is running great with no leaks anywhere.
Now onto steering adjustment and refurbing the 54" deck. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
