Default Choke cable

Hey all,

I'm having this exact same issue with my 1450. It's both comical and annoying. Any ideas what would be causing it? My choke cable moves in and out ok. I readjusted the cable, and made sure the routing was free. Everything looks good, but somehow it keeps backing out. Is vibration causing this?

Anyone solve this issue?

When I had a choke cable that wanted to go closed as the tractor ran, this is what I found.

At some point in its life, the choke spiral outer sheath, and inner wire had been "kinked" when the choke was out.

When you pushed the choke "in", the bent wire was pushed away from the matching spot of the kinked outer sheath.

The vibration of the engine was enough to make the inner wire, and outer sheath move so that they would match again.

I happened to see the sheath move as I pushed the choke button in and out.

I bent both the sheath and inner wire back to a kinda straight condition, that stopped the "self moving choke button"...

If you can not find the problem spot, simply replace the cable assembly,
that will fix it.

Check the tension on the lever arm bolt. If the lever arm is loose the choke cable will creep. Try adding a spring washer under the lever arm.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try both and report back.

My 149 is doing the exact same thing; choke activates itself on its own as its running. Have to slap the button down every minute or two cause the engine will start running rough.

Success! I lubed up the cable, and then bent it to make it a bit harder for the cable to work it's way back. Ran the 1450 for about an hour without issue. Thanks all.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
