2182 Cub Cadet
Short story. A guy down the road has a decent looking 2182 for sale. I have a lot of experience with B&S and Kohler CC's. I have NO experience with the Kubota gas engine as used in CC.
Considering the age of the tractor, what specifics should I look for on the condition of this machine relating to the Kubota engine and related components. The tractor is supposed to have 500 hours on it. |

I am at 1400 hours on my 2182. I had a walker ztr with the diesel version of the same motor with 3200 hours on it. neither one has/had an issue with the motor. the cap rotor and wires are a bit of a pain to replace. I dont run fuel with alcohol so I cannot tell you if that effects the carb. the rear axles tend to come loose and leak, sponsors above have the brace to fix that. I have had a few electrical issues due to corrosion on the terminals. simple cleaning fixed them all. still have an extra alternator NIB that turned out to be a dirty spade terminal connection. mufflers can be expensive. I bought my last one from a marine supply store for 1/3 the cub cadet price. I use a car battery instead of the lawn and garden battery. as with all cyclops tractors the plastic bodywork is brittle and breaks easily. I have replaced all three panels at this point with panels from other models - hand cut the muffler hole. it may be a Super but it isnt build like the old stuff!
I love mine-but it is a bit thirsty 2182 rear 3pt, rear pto, all steel sims cab with heat and radio. 54 and 60 inch decks 45" snowblower, lots of three point/sleeve |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
