The parts breakdown shows 2 different head baffles.
Tractor Serial No. 584058 & below used KH-47-124-03
Tractor Serial No. 584059 & above used KH-47-124-09
KH-47-124-03 has no half round notch

I think he was referring to the aluminum air duct casting the muffler box bolts to. According to the parts look up they are all the same

On engines with balance gears the dipstick was on the outside because the gears are right below where the tube is on top of the block without the gears. Once the gears where no longer used the dipstick moved to the top of the block.

Now that makes perfect sense. Amazing, if you drill down far enough, there is always a reasonable answer (well, most always).
