Cub Cadet Model 1525 Kawasaki Engine: Motor Oil
Hi, I have a Cub Cadet Model 1525 with Serial # 1L032H10161.
It has a 15 HP Kawasaki FH430V Twin Cylinder Engine. (Bought in 2003) The tractor is due for its 200 hour oil & filter change. I have only used Cub Cadet branded engine oil up until now: “Low Ash Engine Oil (SAE 30)”, also has the number: 737-3029 on oil bottle. Can I use any small engine SAE 30 engine oil in my tractor, or is the Cub Cadet branded oil optimum for my tractor? I can find Briggs & Stratton Small Engine Oil SAE-30 in most stores, is this oil just as good to use? I see the words “Low Ash” on my old Cub Cadet branded oil bottle and I didn't see engine oils sold today writing these words on the bottle. Thank you, Nate. p.s. How come the Kawasaki engine is not listed under the topic: “Cub Cadet Engines”? Was Kawasaki in Cub Cadets for too short a time to be listed? |

I've been using farm and fleet brand strait 30wt in all my gas small engines for 20 years.
Never lost one from oil failure. I don't have any kawasaki engines though. But i have serviced quite a few with the same oil, no problems i'm aware of.

And to answer your second question.
This forum is not as up to date as it could be.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
