It will wear into and through the plastic dash on an 82 series...
It will wear into the fiberglass on the others. Supposed to be rubber bumpers on the rear hood support to keep the hood clear of the dash panel. |

Maybe I'm missing something here but on my 109, the rear end of the spring catch does not drop far enough to allow the front end of the spring catch to clear the hood brace when lowering the hood into position. I'm in the middle of finishing the restoration of the 109 and still need to mount the hood, but it appears the PTO handle bracket on the left side (and the PTO actuator shaft on the right) is in the way when lowering the long end of the spring. Cannot get the spring catch to be less horizontal on both sides to clear that hood brace. How far vertical does the front end of that spring catch need to move to clear the hood brace? Can anyone post some pics with the spring lever in both positions for comparison.

There are 2 latches, one on each side/OUTSIDE of the tower between it and the fiberglass dash.
They are not the same. One is for the left side and one is for the right side. If you have had both of them off, you may have re-installed them on the wrong sides? there are also 2 hood bumpers (IH-544189-r1) that glue to the upper lip of the rear hood support to keep the hood clear of the fiberglass dash panel. |

You can bend them a little so it catches.

Ironman, that picture explains it all. My spring catch hits the PTO bracket in the back (rear spring leg appears too long?), not dropping down into the bracket like yours. Maybe when I get the hood mounted it will all come together and fit just fine. I'm guessin' the front catch only has to miss by a smidgen to clear the hood brace, and I'm thinkin' too hard and expectin' too much.

The end of the leg has a slight angle bend. Can you increase the bend so it can drop down into the PTO bracket?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
