Hi guys,
I am in need of more hytran for my Cub Cadets. All I can find at the case construction dealer, is hytran premium. Is that okay to run in my Cub Cadet 122 and 123 ?? Thad |

RUN IT, ain't gonna hurt nothin'.
In fact it's name brand hytran so it's probably the "best" choice to use, but there's many, many other fluids that'll work just fine. After all, it's an old garden tractor, not a million-dollar sports car

You don't need hytran in the 122. (unless you plan to run it at Indy)

Get Mastertran Ultraction at a New Holland dealer. Same stuff. About $25 a gallon.

Hy-Tran Premium is the latest name. I have read that it is made by Shell but have not seen any documentation to support that claim.

WOW that picture is big!
The 122 don't need hy-tran, most gear oil types will work fine. All it has to do is stick to the gears and bearings. The 123 doesn't need specifically hy-tran either but it shouldn't be run on gear oil. You need a proper trans-hydraulic fluid, some say ATF works fine (it probably does) I personally use this brand called "Harvest King" available from a local store called Runnings. They sell this specific type that is made to meet requirements of Case-IH hy-tran, that's what my 107 runs. At the end of the day, like I said before, this is an old garden tractor, not a million-dollar sports car

They recently switched from having Hy Tran produced by the Viscosity Oil Co. to having it produced by Shell. The new formulation is called “premium” and is formulated to be used in any IH made equipment new and old.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
