Sounds like the adjusting nuts for the disk arent tight enough. I used the proper gauge when I did the PTO on the 122 and had the same problem with the buttons rubbing. I adjusted them just a little tighter and that was enough.

Instead of everyone flinging darts at the board while blindfolded,
it might be easier to pinpoint the op's problem if he gave more info, like.... Did the PTO ever work or is this the first time he's tried to use it? Has it ever worked with the snowblower before? Why was he adjusting the gap in the first place? Did it work before he adjusted it and not after? In other words, How about some history! |

Sorry for the delay:
Some history: Old PTO was replaced because it grenaded itself. Bought the tractor with a mower deck, bought a QA-42A thrower for it for the winter. Brand spanking new PTO installed and measured for adjustment with the provided gauge tool. New PTO proceeds to make same grinding noise unless I gently pull on the PTO lever to find the "sweet spot" with the blower attached. Notice that the new felt button wore away into oblivion. Spend a night putting in yet another new button in after having to take the bar out to re-drill the hole cause through wear it had rounded up the hole the button goes in. Turn on tractor. New felt button disintegrates into 4 pieces and redistribute themselves in my driveway. |

Pics of the PTO may help, normally the wear button on the release arm doesn't grenade itself, unless it contacts the clutch release levers in a hateful way, due to the button in the clutch being gone ? In 50 + years I've had very little trouble with that style of PTO unless something was worn or not assembled correct. I'm sure someone didn't mix and match brake and non brake styles, particularly with the clutch wear button.
