Default Model number question

Hey all,

I found serial and model numbers but don't make sense when looked up. Is it IH or MTD and year? (model 146-653-100) and (ser 881481) and (man date L215G2) and it has 48in gt deck, 16hp Vangaurd, its a 1641. I would like to know some info on it.

Thanks and be safe

That model was made between 1992-97, making it without a doubt an MTD Cub. MTD took over the line in 1981.

Here are some very basic stats, and someone will be along shortly to tell you the exact year yours was made. They may even tell you the month, day and what the plant foreman had for breakfast that day.

Your tractor is a 1996 model.

Doesn't a L215G2 MFG Date indicate a 1995?

Looks like a nice tractor for the age!

It was made Dec 21, 1995 and is part of the 1996 Production Year.

Thanks for that info!

So the 146 in the model number means 1996 production year?

That would explain why my father in laws 1864 is a 145 but has a L024G2 Mfg date.

December built tractor too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
