Stupid idea? Or not?
I just acquired a 147 with a broken rod for a $100.00. The big 48 inch deck will be totally rebuilt one day but I was looking at how the deck mounts. Super simple.
My idea was to bolt the deck hookup from the Cub deck to a 33 inch single blade Snapper deck. I believe the Snapper could be easily modified to fit under the tractor. The main belt to the cub deck would power the single blade snapper deck. Just a thought. |

With the right tools, welder, metal cutting, and fabrication, most anything is possible.

I can only think of one way to find out if it is a good idea, you will learn
a bunch either way. Ken |

I think he will find that mowing with a deck that is 3 inches narrower than the width of the tractor tires will make for a lot more string trimming along walls, fences, shrubs, etc.

Thinking a lot of work reinventing what is readily available.

Not sure what the end game is here. Why not focus on rebuilding the 147's engine and turning it into a working piece of equipment before fiddling with modifying the deck?

On an unrelated tangent, I'd love to sit around a campfire with Ol' George and Ironman to shoot the sheet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
