Cub Cadet LT1042, trying to make it faster
Hello,
I have a cub cadet LT1042 Hydrostatic Drive. I just use it as a "tractor" now round my yard so I would like to make it go a bit faster. I have watched some youtube videos of people replacing pulleys and what not and they always make it seem easy... not so for me! lol. I pulled some bits and pieces of it, and the plan was to swap around what looks to be the drive pulley and the deck pulley from under the engine. The drive pulley is on top and looks smaller then then the deck pulley. Only problem is, i cant for the life of me get the nut of the bottom of the shaft. So now I am wondering if this will even work? Can someone give me a heads up as to if this plan is workable or not please. A mechanic mate of mine told me I should borrow a rattle gun from someone and use that to get the nut / bolt off. And then if i swap the pulleys around, i might have to drill a hole in the shaft just under the deck pulley and use a pin of some sort to keep the pulley from falling down...... Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
