Angry Cub Cadet XT1-46 not starting
Hey all, I’m hoping someone here can help me out. I have a CC XT1-46 (Model#13APA1CT056) that I inherited when we bought our farm. A while back the starter shaft snapped, I bought a replacement and installed it. I charged the battery fully and the mower started with no problem. My wife mowed with it for about an hour, turned it off and when she got back on it would only click when trying to start. I changed out the solenoid and it still just clicks. I charged battery fully again and tested it in another mower and it works fine. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I put the old solenoid back on, tried the “jump start” with a screwdriver between the two posts and nothing happened, just sparks.

Before moving on with solenoid or starter issues, did you check to see if you have good ground? That is, connection from battery negative to chassis and engine.

I will check the ground tonight. The only ground I saw was the negative coming from the battery and it was bolted to the back of the mower. Is there other spots to check?

There is a chance especially if you got a cheapochina starter that it failed already. You can eliminate all wiring by using a set of jumper cables positive side direct from battery to positive lug on starter to see if it cranks. Only other question would be does engine turn in other words, not locked up?

You are correct. I pulled the top last night and the starter is already bent and essentially broke. I’m going to try to find a local dealer who has one, hopefully get it put on and it will fix my issue.

You might want do some investigation/research as to what is causing your starter destruction as it is 2 that have been "broken" so far.
Normally a starter wears out or has electrical issues, not physically "broken"
Sorry, not familiar with your lawnmower so no experience to draw from.

From my understanding from research and talking to a local small engine shop, the starters on these (part #32-098-08) were essentially crap and Koehler/cub cadet knew it. The local dealer said this was replaced by 32-098-10s. I should have just bought that one when I was there but tried to find a better deal online. That’s what I get for going cheaper. When I received the started I thought the shaft looked weaker and it was a 10 tooth instead of 9 which is what it should be.

The OEM Starter for your tractor (Limited Information) was a KH-32-098-04, which was a 10 tooth starter.

I’m pretty sure the OEM is 32-098-08. Kohler model KT725-3078. When I go to kohlers site, it says the 3078 is an MTD, but it says the new part is 32-098-10-S.
