LTX1040 PTO belt falls off crank pulley on disengage
I have a LTX1040 I bought new in Spring of 2013
Around 146 on the clock. My current problem is when I disengage the PTO lever (non-electric), the belt sometimes falls off the crank/engine pulley. In my history of PTO belts: 1) Original: I broke while cutting lots of leafs, was several years old 2) Homedepot Aftermarket: I don't remember exactly what killed this one, but I think it had falling off problems and the crank pulley cut it. It was after market (I needed one right away after #1) 3) Homedepot Aftermarket: (bought at the same time as #2) lasted a long time and got nuked when I didn't put a belt keeper back on perfect after replacing an idler pulley that went bad. (It was the two metal brackets that bolted on with the idler pulley.) 4) OEM replacement from MTD, was falling off like #2 and #5, has a small slice, saved this belt as better than nothing for a spare. 5) OEM replacement from MTD (bought with #4), keeps falling off on PTO disengage. 3-5 are all in the 2021 season. I've read that sometimes this happens when you need to re-level the deck? Is there anyway to adjust the belt tightness when the PTO is NOT engaged? I do compare belt lengths when I change them to make sure they are reasonably the same size. Any other ideas? Thanks! |

Do you have the belt guide around the pto Pulley? Part # 747-05171A
I tried adding a pic but it didn't work, if you Google the part number you'll see a pic.

I checked for "adjustment holes" incase I put it back in a different spot, only one spot. I have found that if I release the PTO leaver really slowly it won't fall off. (Internet searching lead to this suggestion and it works for me.) |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
