Default Squealing around PTO while on low throttle

So I drove my 2155 over to my neighbors earlier today and just parked it while we talked. I turned the throttle down low and just left it idling. It sounded fine, he even commented on how good it sounds after the recent tune up.

Then we started hearing a faint squealing noise. I opened the hood and it seems to be coming from where the front shaft connects to the PTO. I turned the throttle up and the noise went away.

Later after I drove back home, parked, and lowered the throttle to a low idle, I heard it again. Raised the throttle and it went away. It's not an ear-bleeding squeal, more of a low noise that goes away once the throttle is ramped up.

Is the PTO clutch going bad? Or could it need some kind of lubrication?

I'd be looking at the drive belt idler pulley.

Since this tractor doesn't have a drive belt, do you mean the PTO mule drive pulleys? But I didn't have the PTO engaged when hearing the noise, so those wouldn't have been a factor..

My Bad,
I looked up what I thought was a 2155 and it showed it was a belt drive.
Apologies are in order.
Since the noise seems to be coming from the pto area,
on the older tractors I'm familiar with, the PTO would be a good place to look.
sometimes a little grease injected under the bearing seal lip with a diabetic syringe, will allow the bearing to last a long time.

No apologies needed George, we can't be human if we don't slip a bit now and again lol. I'll try to shoot some grease down in the PTO clutch and see if that helps. I've greased every fitting I could find that had a zerk, but didn't see one on the PTO.

There's not one, but these work.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
