One of the seals need be installed with the lip pointing out, otherwise if both are pointed inside as one would think, you will push one or both out when filling them with grease.
Sorry if you already know this.

Yep, what ol'George said.
This may be a different spindle than yours, but the principle remains the same.

Default Grease fitting

Tagcab7, Look in the technical Library, Implements, page 2 Parts manual for mower decks. Find your deck and it will show the part you need for the middle spindle. Once you have the part # you can buy from our sponsors at top of page after signing in, or maybe Ebay or Amazon if you trust them. I bought one for my 38 inch deck a couple months ago. Can't remember where I bought it. Hope this helps and if I am leading you wrong, hopefully someone will chime in to set me straight. Have a great day.
Bob

I see what you guys are saying with the seals. Thanks for the tip on the technical library. That helps a lot. I don’t have the manual for the deck. I had already found and bought a spindle end bolt from a dealer or I would have ordered from a sponsor. I was all excited to put it in and reinstall the deck until I went to thread the zerk in. I didn’t realize they have pressed in zerks. It’s a grade eight bolt so no threading it. I see that Napa carries them so I’ll have to get one. Next I have to decide if I want to try pressing it in myself or hiring it done. I wouldn’t be too concerned about it but I don’t want to mess up a $15 bolt and a $6 zerk. I got the last one the dealer had and they’re nla. I picture some sockets or short pieces of pipe and some careful tapping.

Did you say six dollar zerk? You should get about 20 of them for 6 bucks.

That looks pretty straight forward. I thought farm stores would carry the zerks, but all I’m seeing is auto parts stores. The average is around $5.

Picked up the zerk after work today. I found one at an Autozone for 80 cents. The only one they had and it took them some time to find it. The deck is back on the 102. I did a little test mowing with it this evening. Looks like I’ll have some deck adjustments to make and I still need to find some gauge wheels but it’s working. It sounds a heck of a lot better now. Thanks for the help and advice. I learned a lot about my mower deck and even some more about my 102.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
