Default Rims

I understand that to measure the width of a tire rim you are to take the measurement from the inside bead of one side to the other. Now the question my tractor has 4.80x4.00x8 tires and they are mounted on IH rims that measure 8 inches by 2.5 inches wide. ( inside bead to inside bead). The measurement from the outside rim to the other side is 3 inches. All reading material I have seen references rims for this size tire measure 3.75 x 8. Can anyone shed any light on the 2.5 inch rims? They were original to the tractor when my father bought it in 1967.
Thanks

The 122 rolled out of the Factory with these front rims:

IH-386188-R92 Wheel Assy, Front w/3.75 X 8 Rim for 4.80/4.00 X 8 Tires .

I can not find where IH used a 2.50" rim.

Default Interesting

Thank you for that information. That is what I found also. I would like to post a picture of the rim but can't seem to find instruction on how to do that.

Can you point me in the right direction on how to post picture? The tires on the tractor are the original goodyear 4.800x4.99x8 tires. The rims have a grease fitting into the bearing seats. Don't look like they were added later. They look factory installed.

thanks,

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
