They're doing that because of the small size. Doing a few acre field with an antique tractor, you'd do the loops and end up with 2x dead furrows on the edges of the field.

I have a #2 on a 1450 to do all my tilling plus customers in the spring.

By size. Most small town jobs are $35-$40, I can drive a few blocks to those.
Most out of town jobs are $45-50 as I must load & haul the rig and there are only a couple of those each spring.

Hardly anyone gardens any more, I only do about 10 each spring and only 3 of them are serious about it.
When I was a kid, every vacant lot in town was a garden and I knew most everyone!
Now, I barely know who is living on the next block and no one "neighbors" anymore.
Small town life has sure changed since I was a kid in the 50's, early 60's

Plus I offer to fall plow at no charge but no takers so far
People in general are lazy any more......sad.

Yeah, it's a different world. Sounds like you're basically doing it to use your equipment, and they barely cover gas and your time.
