Default Cub Cadet 100 new owner questions

Hi, I have been reading some of the threads on this site for a bit but this is my first post. I have done some searches already on these questions.

I recently purchased a 100 model and just got it running (new carb/fuel bowl).

The tractor seems almost too fast/jumpy to me. For reference I am used to driving/working on a lt1050 we use for cutting the grass which has a foot "throttle"/hydrostatic. We have a pretty hilly yard with lots of variation so I am looking to smooth it out a bit if possible. I tried to find a tach to verify engine speed that is compatible but not seeing much out there with good reviews for a 1 cylinder.

2nd question is regarding the PTO. The previous owner said the pto worked but did jump out periodically. Being that it didn't run initially I could not test it until now. Basically nothing happens when I move the lever.

My understanding is the PTO rod turnbuckle can be adjusted. Is there a reference out there as to how tight it should be? I don't want to make things worse. Are there any other things to adjust before having to tear down the pto?

The final question will probably require a picture but on the front of the tractor there is a spring/bolt sticking out the front. I don't see it on other pictures of this model. Any idea what it might be?

Clutch: Has tractor been sitting long that the clutch has some rust on the plates and throw out? Perhaps running and using the tractor a while will improve the performance. 0ther than that, maybe you have a bad teaser spring. Without pictures...I assume your third request may be referring to the mule drive with that nut and spring thingy sticking out? That bolt is for the tensioning the belt driven off the PTO to the implement like a mower deck.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! I will check out those threads.

I didn't even think about the clutch being a factor in the jumpy behavior. Guess I will have to spend some time driving it around the yard and see if it improves.
