Just a quick question, without taking the transaxle apart, how could the shop serviceman determine that the problem was with the bevel gears? Is there a test that can be done to determine that?

@ironman THANKS!!! Those all have the tranny part # 717-3048 ?
This may help me find one that's closer to me in Hershey, PA since I can see other models the tranny will fit. They did take it apart. I guess he saw that the bevel gears were gone. |

Ok. I found a guy in Denver PA, and he had a used Tranny. He specializes in all older cub models, 1 hour away from me! Super nice guy and he let me pick it up today. Also. The following models use the 717-3048 Transmission:
1020, 1320, 1420, 1720 1330, 1430, 1730. I’m attaching some pics of the tranny. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
