582D planning -clutch and driveline question
Like the title states, I’m planning on building a 582D. I now have everything to do this, but haven’t decided on the driveline. Should I stay with the 1806 style clutch and driveshaft, or go with a Zach Kerber style 3 puck, or something similar? And should I go with a CV/1535 style connection, or just Flex Disc joint it? I have an extra 186X cv driveshaft, but I’m curious if it’s worth the hassle.
Also, I plan on possibly using this to pull a cat 0 plow, will run a creeper, probably use a cast iron trans, possibly with the 30mm cyclops axles, and will probably make it a SGT, implementing hydraulics and power steering. What say you? Which clutch and is the CV worth the hassle? Also, will I regret the 26” tears with a standard trans, or will I need to re-gear with aftermarket parts? And finally, would I regret using an aluminum case trans, even if I add a brace kit? I’ll start a build thread for it hopefully in a few months, just trying to plan it out now. |

The diesels beat on the drive line. I would use the CV shaft you have. Makes it easier to work on.
What engine are you planning to use?

It’s a D600, I have one from a 1572 I bought a few years ago. That tractor was complete, minus the transaxle. I already have a 982D I built and a running 1572 w/rear PTO, so why not a Super 582D?
I like the idea of a CV vs a rag joint, just wasn’t sure if it was worth the hassle of a custom driveshaft. What about clutch style? Obviously a Zack kerber clutch is stronger, but I’m not building a puller, and I have an aluminum trans 582 parts tractor. |
