Default Picked up a 1440

I saw it for sale about 2 miles up the road yesterday morning. Stopped to look at it, took it for a ride, and told the guy I’d be back in 10 minutes with cash and a trailer. I’ve seen it out before along with his other two Cubs, I’ve been waiting to see one with a for sale sign. It looks kind of rough with a quick rattle can paint job over the rust complete with overspray, but it runs and mows good. If I keep it, it will get a proper paint job eventually. 14 hp, so I guess that would make it a 1440. The hour meter works and shows 1035 hours. The grill housing is broken, but the rest of the plastic is in decent shape. The PTO switch stopped working, so the PO rigged up another one above it. It works, but I want to put it back to factory. LED headlights. I mowed with it for an hour yesterday. The only issues I noticed was that going from reverse to forward is kind of jerky, and a little vibration, possibly from the driveshaft. I’ll check that out before I use it much. Not sure what I’m going to do with it yet. I already have too many tractors, but it was too good of a deal to pass up, and I have been wanting to try a Cyclops.

They make a good mowing tractor, limited to the deck size, but you did well.

It does mow very nice. After using my 882 with the 50C deck all summer, this 42” deck feels so small.

I had one for the last six years that I plowed snow with, great tractor! The only reason I sold it was because I bought an 1872 that had Hydraulic lift. The strong arm lift was getting tiresome at 74 years old, I picked up a 54" plow with Hydraulic turn. Was very nice last winter to be able to stay in the seat the entire time pushing snow. You'll love that 1440 , with that easy steer, it's like having power steering.

Yep, the first thing I noticed was how easy it steered, and a much tighter turning radius than the older ones. The tilt steering wheel is nice too. I don’t mind the Armstrong lift yet, but I’m still young. I would like to find a hydraulic angle blade, my 882 I got in the spring has front hydraulics.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
