2009 LTX1045 with 46" Deck - pulley misalignment
Hello again,
As the subject says I have a 2009 LTX1045 with 46" Deck Have been mowing for a couple months with this 1045 and just recently shredded a deck belt. No worries, buy another (correctly sized) 954-04219 deck belt. Within minutes of use I smelled burning rubber. Got back underneath and its looking to me like the deck idler pulley on the right side in drawing is misaligned. It appears to be parallel with the ground when viewed from the side which causes the belt to rub hard on the upper lip of the pulley and may be rubbing on the pulley belt guard. Should the arm on the right pulley shown in the drawing be angled up toward the engine pulley? Again, mine is flat however I can lift it easily making me think its supposed to be angled when in use ?? learn me.

I found a video that describes my problem exactly. Going to try this out.

well that video sounded like it identified my issue but it didn't. After 20 minutes with a brand new belt the belt shredded again. All pulleys spin freely. Spindles also. Stumped. Belt seems really loose when first installed. How tight is the belt supposed to be when not engaged?

I would think that disengaged the belt should be tight enough that you can
spin the whole deck by turning the belt by hand. That is unhooked from the mower drive belt also. Ok never mind on that bit of advice, now that I relook at the drawing of your deck I was thinking 2 belts. Is it possible the problem is at the PTO and not at the deck? Ken |

This GT has a manual engagement setup. So unless I'm missing something, the "PTO" pulley is simply an extension of the output shaft from the Kohler lump.

PTO still has to engage and disengage. If it is not working the way it
is supposed to it could cause trouble with the belt for sure. I would make sure the PTO is spinning as it should. Just thinking out loud here. Ken |

I have just realized that the 6" long belt tension spring is missing!
Not sure how I missed this earlier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4C1jYr___s

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
