Charge indicator is not working.… How do I fix this one pops?
I’ve had a lot of trials and tribulations with my 129 in the past with the voltage regulator, and as of right now I know for a fact that it is charging, I’ve ran it for many hours straight and went to crank it over next day and it turned over pretty fast. However, the charge indicator at full throttle jerks back and forth from charge to discharge and doesn’t show a visible charge at idle or half throttle. I homemade some new rubber isolaters for the regulator, replaced the braided ground wire on the back of the regulator, cleaned the contact points, replaced all the wires that make up the charging system, and there’s a brand new matching OEM part number ammeter on it as well.
Like i said, i know for a fact it’s charging but if the ammeter shows it correctly it gives you peace of mind. The regulator that’s on it now is non adjustable but i’ve seen people bend the little fingers that hold tension on the coil springs in the regulator to adjust it. I do not have a variable power supply for that but i’m sure that would make it work properly. I’m guessing that the coil that opens/closes the circuit from the generator to the battery is rapidly clicking on and off and that’s what is causing the ammeter to bounce back and forth, but I’m sure one of you know more about that than I do. I would buy a new regulator but it’s hard to find one with the BAT/GEN/F/GRD terminals since they only used those on the first WF series and moved to a stator with the QL series. |

A Voltage Regulator is put on a precise jig and with accurate meters, adjusted to the specifications that Delco-Remy specified. Unless you have that jig, have the accurate meters, and know Delco-Remy's specs, your efforts are nothing more than a wild a$$ guess.
Two options: (a) take to a shop, for professional examination and adjustments, or (b) buy a proper replacement Voltage Regulator, being: IH-545130-R92

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
