I'd have to remove the tunnel cover and look at the rear of the shaft again, since I'm trying to envision how the fan could be removed from the shaft without uncoupling the front and removing the pin. I've only ever had all that stuff apart once and so looked back at the (many!) pictures I took so as to know how to put everything back together again once done.

Interesting. So there is a driveshaft made for these that doesn't have the pin. Didn't know that. It would make the job much easier.

It still uses a pin in the lower one. The upper has one in it.

I'm confused...if they both have (and use) pins, how is it easier to install a fan?
