Extended warranty was a bust.
Apparently PTOs are not warranted by Cub and the shop assigned the job didn't want to discuss the busted up keyway. To the shop's credit, they're really competitive on price. But as for Cub, I'm not impressed. I've received better response and care from Greenworks. |

From the pictures of the damage and carnage, something had to be noisy for a while.

It replaced a late/mid 90's era Craftsman LT4000 that was quite loose everywhere (and noisy to match) that I just got tired of nickle & diming me. At this rate though, they're on about the same footing so far. But the Cub has been simpler on the maintenance/repair side and definitely a lot more time efficient when mowing. On the Craftsman, I got so tired of the safety sensors that I just made a heavy gauge hot jump-wire for starting that I kept coiled up under the seat. I looked around at a couple commercial zeros to replace the Cub with. Its too steep of a jump financially for me right now so I guess I'll be sticking with it for a bit longer. |

I mow maybe 3 acres with it.
Didn't really use it after it was replaced last year. Started 1st mowing of the year and didn't get 3/4 through before PTO died again. Not sure of cause yet, just came back to search up what voltage(s) I should expect to be seeing so I can start troubleshooting again. Definitely something different though. Wires look fine and no excessive heat around the PTO this time. |

Looks like one of the wires came loose from the spade connector going into the PTO clutch. - I over-aggressively crimped it apparently.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
