I had some unfortuante findings this afternoon.
On the good side, it runs and moves great. Also, the air cleaner did have Series II hidden (didn't notice that in the dark). I found the engine S/N (14043242), but forgot to look for the block off plate (still no guarantee it's a series II I suppose). The bad: the RHS 2x 3/8 bolts to the rear end through the frame broke at some point. This appears to have caused exessive wear to the front rag joint (vibration when given throttle). I pulled out the rag joints and found the driveshaft askew in the front pilot bearing. Anyone ever change these without loosening the engine? I was thinking that if I unbolted the adapter from the engine w/ the 4 small bolts I might be able to sneak the new rag joint discs in there.

The 6 bolts that are holding the engine plate to frame are very easy to remove-especially with a 9/16" ratcheting swivel head wrench. I would remove them and simply slide the engine forward an inch or two.

TIG welded up the missing material on the engine side of the driveshaft and turned it down to fit the bushing again. I also made it slightly longer s.t. it would fully engage the bushing (lots of clearance behind it).

Put together the driveshaft that I rebuild the engine side of. All new disks and bushings/bearings. New charge pump seal and o-ring. Excited to finally try out this 1914!

Runs and mows like a champ now. Hoping to pressure wash later on in the week and tube the rear tires when it cools down a bit. Then it'll be time to tackle the broken bolts.

I spent ~2 hours trying to get the front 2 in. I can get all the rest back in. Not sure what is going on there - it wasn't hard at all on my 1711.

Got it pressure washed, replaced some fuel line, and it is running good. Latest issue is engine oil spewing out from under the fuel pump. That's new.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens.
