I just had a similar problem with getting my 1450 working again.
1st check that the pulleys line up to the deck pulley since it has to twist the belt over since the pulley is off center. My mule drive had been straightened so someone could hang a 36 inch deck off it (pulley is centered) and the pressure on one side of both pulleys just wore right through the belts. 2nd check the idlers and the other pulleys. the idlers are relatively cheap and if the bearing are worn at all, just replace them. Make sure the pto and deck pulleys grooves are clean and not pitted. if they have rust in them from sitting in a barn or outside clean them off so they're smooth, and if they are very pitted or super worn look at getting replacements that will cause excessive wear of the belt. Those are more expensive parts 3rd- replace the mangled tensioning bolt on the right of the mule drive, you can find those hook bolts in a slightly larger bolt at tractor supply or lowes. Clean threads and a new nut will make adjusting the tension much easier and a larger bolt wont get bent as easily as the original one.
