It looks like a small tool box on there.

Could be.
Is there a reason the cover is slotted? |

Probably came off a gear drive (1000 or 1200), slotted for a creeper drive lever.

Definitely needs a hydro release lever cover. That will be annoying if you need to roll it by hand if the engine doesn't start or you just want to move it around the garage. But dual hydrolics if definitely a plus, jealous to have that for a power blade

Revised exhaust system? If you can move the tractor by pushing it probably has the new style hydro valves with auto release

They still roll without the Lever. My 1976 1450 doesn't have the lever either they were designed to be rolled without damage to trans

I was looking into this, does yours have new auto release valves? Mine has the original style manual release valves and without them activated it really resists being moved any direction.

During the Q/L Series, CC made a change from Manual Check Valves to Automatic Check valves.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
