1862 vs. 1864
Does anyone know what the difference is between the 1862 model Cub Cadet and the 1864. I know that they are both 18 hp; have sunstrand hydros; and have power steering. What other differences set them apart?

The differences that I found are with the engine. Command vs Magnum, both 18hp Kohlers.
The 1864 has the superstear front axle that moves the front wheels forward at least one inch. (Helps when lifting things like a snow blower) and raises the front end about one inch. The drive shaft length is different and the CV joints have smaller splines on the 1864. Plus the CV joints have grease fittings. All 1864s have the larger PTO pulley. I think some of the late 1862s had this as well. Some minor wiring changes. Adding diodes etc. IMHO the 1864 is the best Cub GT ever made.

Thanks for the information Frank! I have a fully restored 1864 with a 54 GT deck for mowing...I love it!
 I found an 1862 about 12 miles away that I was thinking about purchasing to help sell the 451 snow thrower that I currently have for sale on craigslist and OCC. Unless someone has the right model Cub Cadet tractor, it can be a tough sell. I hate to scrap it because is just too nice! I need to find a good home for it. I have another 451 blower that I plan to use on my restored 1641, so I need to make some room!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester.
